DAY 2: Canterbury to Dover - Dunkerque to Bray-Dunes

France, here we come!

Distance:        21/19 miles

Climb:            1400/60 feet

Moving time:   3hrs 15 mins

Short but sweet
After yesterday's tough ride, we're thankful that today brings what will be our shortest stint by far, with only 40 miles of pedalling – consisting of two 20-mile stints sandwiched by a 2-hour cross-channel ferry ride.

FUN FACT: Bray-Dunes, situated on the Belgian border, is the northernmost point of France, and the site of many casualties during World War II as a result of the Dunkerque Evacuation. Codenamed Operation Dynamo, a fleet of small boats and ships rescued more than 338,000 Allied soldiers from the beaches and harbour.

DAILY DEBRIEF: Let’s parler Franglais
It was a jour de two parts either side of the Manche Anglais.

The premier part of notre voyage began on the outskirts de Canterbury pour a petit ride vers le port de Dover. La route was in peut hilly mais nothing like hier. Nous ensemble noticed the wonderful tranquilité de the rolling countryside. Les oiseaus chanted dans les fields and le soleil brilled on nous.

Before tres longue we reached the premier ban lieu de Dover et its chateau. A vrai landmark. Malencontreusement Paul etais “shit on” par in gull de mare. A quick stop pour café et un wipe down and we were en route déjà.

Nous navigated the port de Dover par following the ligne rouge for velos and arrived in our lane près de notre crew supportive. Tout le monte passed an agreeable voyage sur la good ship DFDS having all souvenired their passports.

Maintenant nous avons arriverons en France and only had 30 plus kilometres to aller. Taking the route coastal we set off through Loon Plage vers Dunkerque et Bray-Dunes, our point d’embarquation pour the ride proper. Paul peeled off at his place du camping to rendezvous avec Jacqueline, mais Richard continued to the frontier Belge to stay just before vers the border with Teresa. Remain de the ride begins pour real as we turn au sud.

Bon chance nos amis and parler déjà soon.

  2. Your tour is not only for a bon cause but it’s also educational. It won’t be long and I fully expect to be effluent en Franglais.
