DAY 1: Farnham to Canterbury The Canterbury Trials Distance           114.37 miles Climb 4800 feet Moving time 10:33 hrs Not quite the Pilgrims’ Way The planning app initially routed us on much of the historic pilgrimage route from Farnham along the North Downs to Canterbury. But the prospect of facing a daunting elevation of some 6000ft on our first day in the saddle proved too much. STAGE 10 (Day 12):  Agde to Cerbère Le Fin: Old knees to the Pyrenees Distance:      109 miles Climb:           3287 feet   Today's profile presents 88 miles of mainly flat terrain along the sparkling blue Mediterranean coast with a wall-to-wall sunny forcast set to hit 28°.  HOWEVER, after a daily climb average of 980 feet over the last week, the final push to the Spanish border presents us with around 2700 feet to cover in the remaining 18 miles! FUN FACT:  Cerbère is the last French village before reaching Spain. It's best known as an ‘international’ border railway station, on the line between Perpignan (twinned with Lancaster) and Barcelona (twinned with Dublin). Since France and Spain use different rail gauges, the border stations of Cerbère and Portbou are busy with various transfer or gauge adjustment operations. They did it!   Paul & Richard ride France End-to-End for Phyllis Tuckwell We're back! We return to riding and raising money with yet another end-to-end challenge – this time cycling around 1,000 miles "nord au sud" f rom the northernmost point to the most southerly tip of the French mainland.   Pourquoi? Achievement, adventure and fundraising towards the much-needed Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice New-Building Appeal .  Notre défi? On 29th May 2025 we set off at 08:15 from the Hospice HeadWay House offices in Farnham for the port of Dover via London and Canterbury, sail to Dunkirk in readiness to dip our tyres in The Channel (La Manche) at Bray-Dunes. From there, our old knees will take us south through France arriving at the Spanish border near Cerbère some 12 days later.
